Concussion Gradual Return to Play Protocol
Step 1. No physical activity until asymptomatic.
Step 2. Low levels of physical activity. This includes walking or riding an exercise bike. No weight training.
Step 3. Moderate levels of physical activity. This includes running and moderate weight training. No helmet or other equipment.
Step 4. Heavy non-contact physical activity. This includes sprinting, non-contact sport specific drills in full equipment.
Step 5. Full contact in controlled practice.
Step 6. Full contact in game play.
The student-athlete must remain asymptomatic to progress to the next level. If symptoms return during any of the steps, the student-athlete must return to previous step.
