Why Mrs. Johnson Believes the Arts Are Essential:

The arts provide a variety of experiences to learn and discover with.

Visual language is developed and explored in art class.

Judgement is more important than being right or wrong.

Children realize that problems can have more than one solution and questions can have more than one answer.

The arts illustrate more than one way to see the world.

Open mindedness and flexibility are key to problem solving.

A small change can have dramatic effects.

The arts help to put a picture to a child’s feelings, even if they can’t explain them.
