Dear 1st Grade Parents,

In the past, we have allowed the students to have snacks in the classroom since the time between breakfast and lunch can seem far away to them.  Since severe food allergies are prevalent these days, especially peanut and tree nuts, we would like to make sure our students are as safe as possible at school.  Some classrooms will have posters that alert visitors not to bring nut products into the classroom.  We would like to continue to allow the students to eat a mid-morning snack.  The following is a list of suggested snacks that will not be harmful to other students.  They also have the added benefit of being very healthy!  Since we have so many allergic students, and snacks are eaten in the classroom, if your child brings something not on the list, they may not being able to eat it.

ü Any fruit: grapes, bananas, apples, oranges, etc.

ü Carrot sticks

ü Celery sticks (no peanut butter)

ü Yogurt (please be sure to send a spoon too!)

ü Cheese sticks/cubes

ü Jell-O cups

ü Plain applesauce

ü Plain goldfish crackers

ü Plain pretzels

Thank you,

The First Grade Team
