Get to know the PTO Candidates
PTO Board elections for 2013-2014 are going to be held at the next PTO Meeting on May 15th at 4:00pm in the SRMS library.  Come out and vote! The candidates are:

    MIKE MORGAN - Co-President Candidate
I am a stay-at-home Dad and community volunteer with a business and consulting background.  I believe in giving back and paying it forward.  My passions are leadership, community, and youth.  My wife (Jen) and I have 2 sons, Ned (rising 6th grader at SRMS) and Eric (rising 4th grader at Horizon Elementary School).  I am currently President of the Horizon Elementary School PTA (2nd year; former Senior Vice President of Educational Programs for 1 year; former Treasurer for 2 years).  I volunteer in both classrooms each week (6th year).  I am the Assistant Coach (6th year) of the Dominion High School Varsity Swim Team.  In January, I was appointed as the Algonkian District Representative to the Loudoun County Joint Board of Supervisors and School Board Standing Committee Citizen Volunteer Work Group.

Amy Curran and I have worked very well together on the Horizon Elementary School PTA for 6 years.  We look forward to serving as Co-Presidents of the SRMS PTO.   We will lead a partnership among Thunderbolts parents, teachers, administrators, & staff, and students.  We seek to complement and supplement the education of our children through SRMS PTO programs, activities, and events that enhance school spirit and sense of community; support teaching and learning; go above and beyond the 3Rs of Reading, (W)Riting, and (A)Rithmetic --> Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Art, Music, Physical Education, Character Education, life skills, etc.  We will focus on the benefits and value of joining, volunteering, and participating.  We will bring experience, ideas, input, energy, and enthusiasm, and a strong network in the Dominion Cluster (Horizon, Lowes Island, Meadowland, and Sugarland Elementary Schools; SRMS; DHS) and Loudoun community.  We look forward to making SRMS PTO, SRMS, and community impact.

    AMY CURRAN - Co-President Candidate
I would like to serve SRMS as your PTO President.  I have served our community with various roles on the Horizon PTA.  I served as VP of Staff Relations; President of the PTA for 2 years; VP for 2 years and VP of Fundraising. My daughter is a rising 9th grader at DHS and I will have a rising 6th grader at SRMS.  Mike Morgan and I have worked together for many years on the PTA board and feel that we can bring some new energy to our school.  I look forward to meeting you throughout the school year and welcome any new ideas that you would like to bring to our community here at SRMS.

CARL CASSANI - Vice President Candidate
Carl lives in Great Falls with his wife Donna and their three children Brian, Kevin, and Caroline.  Brian and Kevin have already graduated from Dominion HS and Caroline is a rising 7th grader.

Outside of work, Carl is very active in the Lacrosse community coaching lacrosse for the last 11 years; Carl has been on the Board of Directors for his HOA the past three years and is looking for something new.  Carl has a Masters of Science degree in Education from Va Tech and is also a Project Mgmt Professional (PMP) as well as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR).

What a Teacher Appreciation Week!

Thank you for your very generous Sponsor-A-Teacher donations, which allowed the PTO to offer treats to the 130+ teachers and staff of SRMS.  All were delighted!
TAW treats

On Monday, teachers were treated to a coffee and light breakfast in each of the three house lounges.  On Wednesday, our rolling coffee cart visited each classroom with Starbucks and fresh-baked scones from Great Harvest Bread.  On Friday, lunch was catered by Maggiano's Little Italy and thank you notes written by the students were given to the teachers.

What a delight!  A very big thank you to all those who sponsored our teachers.  Another equally big thank you to the volunteers who spent their time making this week extra special.  The week was a success because of YOU!
