Ms. Shields
"Dream big, but allow yourself the opportunity to start small, and have your share of struggles in the beginning. The world's great composers weren't writing symphonies the day they first sat at a piano."

Welcome to ALGONKIAN!

My name is Karen Shields and I am so excited to be starting my second year as Assistant Principal at Algonkian.  This is my 10th year in education and I love what I do!  I have taught Pre-k, Kindergarten, Special Education K-2 and First Grade.  I graduated from Slippery Rock University in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, received my Master's in Educational Leadership from Shenandoah University in 2009 and my certification in Special Education Administration through George Mason in 2011.

I want to thank everyone for making my first year at Algonkian so amazing!  I am looking forward to another great yearJ  I would like to extend a warm welcome back to all our returning students and parents and a warm welcome to all our new students and parents.  As always, the start of a school year holds the promise of new discovery and learning, as well as the prospect of personal growth in all areas.

Please remember that the "Partnership" between parents and the school is very important to your child's education.  Feel free to contact me anytime at karen.shields@lcps.org
I look forward to getting to know everyone during this fantastic year of learning and social development!!!

Proud to be a Bobcat!
