Students in grades 1-5 attend art class once a week for 50 minutes.
Art education classes at the elementary level provide students with the opportunity for hands-on experience (art production), as well as the integration of art history, art criticism and aesthetics. Through their artwork, students build skills in many areas, including self-expression and problem solving.
Major themes around which the art program are centered are:
Experience in a wide variety of media including drawing, painting, weaving, ceramics, collage, assemblage, printmaking, photography, and computer imaging.
Integration of art and the regular classroom curriculum
Study of art forms from diverse cultures
Study of art history, including masters and how their work related to other art work of their time and culture

Student artwork on display throughout the building
- Off-campus art show at the LCPS Administration Building
- 5th grade yearbook designs voted on by the entire fifth grade class.The top five designs will be featured in the 2011-2012 yearbook.
