WELCOME TO THE HOME OF THE WILD CATS! ¡BIENVENIDOS A LA ESCUELA DE LOS GATOS SALVAJES! |
LCPS students in grades 4 and 5 will receive Spanish instruction. Emphasis is placed on listening, speaking, and reading skills.
Students are provided with a variety of activities and games, creating in this way an appropriate environment. Students affective filter reduces so that, it becomes easier for them to get involved in the language learning.
This program also promotes interdisciplinary learning. Students are exposed in the foreign language to several topics that are studied in their regular subjects. This hybrid instructions leads them to develop other mental processes like contrasting and comparing what makes the knowledge of multiple disciplines to remain more in the long term memory.
This first step of the program showed positive outcomes during the last academic year (2006-2007). Students progressively increased their motivation level to the learning of a language and thus to the learning of a culture. More has to be done, but so far we have created the basis for an effective language-learning course.
