For the first time, Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) middle school students across the division will take part in a districtwide Future Ready Exploration experience designed to help them discover their interests, explore potential careers and learn about future educational pathways.
The Future Ready Exploration experience will take place Thursday, Nov. 12, at all LCPS middle schools while eighth-grade students who have applied to the Academies of Loudoun participate in admissions testing. Students in grades 6 and 7, along with eighth-grade students who are not participating in testing, will take part in a two-hour Future Ready Exploration Lesson.
Designed by Academic Programs in collaboration with Career and Technical Education and School Counseling, the lesson will introduce students to academic and special program opportunities available through LCPS and help them connect their interests and strengths to potential careers.
Students will use SchooLinks and guided activities to explore careers through the RIASEC career interest framework, which helps students identify interests across six broad areas: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising and Conventional. Students will also learn about LCPS programs and opportunities that can help them continue exploring those interests as they move through middle and high school.
“Middle school is an important time for students to begin discovering what interests them and the opportunities available to them,” said Superintendent Aaron Spence. “Future Ready Exploration gives students a chance to learn more about themselves and begin making connections between their interests and the programs, courses and career pathways they may want to pursue in the years ahead.”
Lesson materials will be available through each school’s Schoology course, giving families an opportunity to see what students explored and continue those conversations at home.
