Intramural sports promote lifelong healthy and active lifestyles of all participants by creating positive experiences in recreational sports competitions through the structured use of leisure time, which additionally creates opportunities for the growth and development of all participants. The Intramural Sports Program supports the school and division's mission by providing high-quality programs to enhance the quality of life for students.
All middle school students are eligible to play at their home school. There are no coaches or fees for these sports! Students can sign up to play at their school with any other students from that school who wish to make a team or a student can sign up as an individual. Contact your school coordinator for details about team sign up.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What middle schools will have intramural sports?
A: All 18 LCPS middle schools will offer the Intramural Sports program in the 2024-2025 school year.
Q: Are there tryouts and coaches for intramural sports, and do I need to have experience playing the game?
A: There are no tryouts, and there are no coaches for intramural sports! Each school has a coordinator to manage the activities, but this person is not a coach for the teams. You do not need any prior experience to play—just register using the activity registration website and be a student in good standing at your middle school.
Flag Football:
Flag Football will be played in the first quarter of the school year. It is a 7-on-7 non-contact game where the objective is to score touchdowns. There is no tackling. Each participant wears a flag belt, and a player is deemed 'down' once a flag is pulled off their belt. Students will create their own teams of up to 11 players, with any combination of gender and grade.
Volleyball:
Volleyball will be played in the second quarter of the school year. This is a 6-on-6 non-contact game where students score points by hitting a ball over a net without a return from the opposing team. Students will create their own teams of up to 9 players, with any combination of gender and grade.
Basketball:
Basketball will be played in the third quarter. This is a 3-on-3 non-contact game played on a smaller court with one basket. The basic rules of basketball scoring apply. Students will create their own teams of up to 5 players, with any combination of gender and grade.
Soccer:
Soccer will be played in the fourth quarter of the school year. This is a 7-on-7 game that follows most of the traditional soccer rules. The field and nets are smaller, but the game is still played with the feet, and goaltenders are used. Students will create their own teams of up to 11 players, with any combination of gender and grade.
These intramural sports are designed to be inclusive and enjoyable, allowing students of all skill levels to participate and compete in a supportive environment.
Q: Is there a fee to play?
A: There is no fee to play! The schools will provide all team equipment. Students only need to provide personal equipment such as proper shoes, a mouthguard athletic clothing, etc.
Q: Are there practices and games? When will these occur?
A: Intramurals are designed to be fun! There are no practices. Students will create teams with their friends and play against other teams according to a designated schedule. Games will take place directly after school on a day or days of the week designated by the respective school.
Q: Do we get to play against other schools?
A: Only one team per school will play in the LCPS Championship Tournament for each sport. A bracketed tournament at each school at the conclusion of each 'pool play' season will determine which team represents the school at the LCPS Championship events.
Q: How can my child sign up?
A: To sign up,
1. Complete the online registration information at https://lcps-ar.rschooltoday.com/home,
2. Attend the organizational meeting hosted by your middle school.
3. The intramural coordinator at your school will schedule the meeting(s) and advertise them to your school community.
While some students may form teams in advance, all are welcome, and individual registrants may be assigned to a team roster. Space is limited.
Q: My student is interested, but I don’t have the equipment needed.
A: Each participant must provide their mouthpiece, t-shirt, shorts, shoes, and any necessary protective equipment. If your student needs assistance with equipment, please talk with the intramural coordinator at your school.
