Loudoun County Public Schools STEP & Head Start programs provide a quality preschool experience with comprehensive services at no cost to qualifying families. Your family may qualify for these programs if you:
reside in Loudoun County, Virginia
have a child who will be 4 by September 30, or 3 if you live in certain areas of Sterling or Western Loudoun
meet income guidelines, or
receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and/or homeless per definition of the McKinney-Vento Act
have a child with a diagnosed disability or an IEP (Individualized Education Plan)
Though families may qualify, spaces are limited and selection is based on need, not “first come, first served”.

It is the purpose of the LCPS Head Start program to promote social competence and enhance school readiness of low-income children by focusing on their cognitive, social and emotional development in a learning environment that supports their growth in:
language and literacy
math and science
art and physical skills; and
through the provision of:
health services
educational services
nutritional services
social services
and disabilities services
The services provided are based on family needs and goals. The Head Start staff follow the guidelines in the Head Start Program Performance Standards and the Head Start Act to provide services.
