Mentoring and Coaching
Mission Statement
The mission of the Mentoring and Coaching Program is to support, empower, and retain teachers who positively impact student learning and development.
Program Information
The LCPS Mentoring and Coaching Program supports every novice teacher across all grade levels and content areas by providing a mentor and an instructional coach.
Lead Mentors collaborate with school-based administration to pair all teachers new to Loudoun County with a trained mentor. These mentors partner with their assigned proteges regularly to acclimate them in the following ways: accessing curriculum and resources, planning purposeful and engaging lessons aligned with district initiatives, and establishing classroom community, routines, and procedures.
In addition to a mentor, novice teachers are also assigned an instructional coach. The instructional coach provides personalized, differentiated, job-embedded professional development and best practice resources. This non-evaluative support is designed to impact teacher efficacy, craftsmanship, and comprehensive student development and learning. The novice teacher and the coach will collaborate through classroom visits, feedback, modeling, reflection, and problem-solving.
