LCPS offers a comprehensive music program in grades K-12. Music is required of all students in grades K-6. Music is required in grade 6 and the offerings include band, chorus, strings, and general music. Band, chorus, guitar, and strings in grades 7 and 8 are electives. In grades 9-12, a full program of electives is offered including multiple levels of band, chorus, guitar, and orchestra. The Virginia Music Educators Association District XVI High School Jazz Ensemble was selected by the the U.S. Dept. of Education to be featured at the 2024 Virtual Federal Student Aid Training Conference in Washington, DC Dec. 3-5. The virtual performance featured three songs previously recorded from the District Jazz event in April. The event is Federal Student Aid's premier training event for financial aid professions and had an audience of approximately 22,000 participants. Congratulations to our participating HS Jazz Ensemble Directors and students!
