For Students
Work-Based Learning (WBL) gives you the chance to step outside the classroom and into real-world environments where people do the jobs you're curious about. These experiences help you explore careers, build skills, and see how school connects to your future. Here's what you might get to do:
Job Shadowing: Spend a few hours or a day with a professional in a field you're interested in. You’ll observe what they do, ask questions, and get a feel for what the job is really like.
Internships: Work part-time with a company or organization during the school year or summer. Internships give you hands-on experience, help you develop skills, and sometimes even lead to paid positions.
Youth Apprenticeships: Get paid while learning a trade or technical skill. You'll split your time between school and structured training on the job, setting you up for a career after graduation.
School-Based Enterprises: Participate in student-run businesses within your school, like a coffee shop, print shop, or spirit store. You'll learn how to manage operations, work with customers, and solve real business problems.
Career Days & Industry Tours: Visit companies, colleges, or job sites to explore different industries, meet professionals, and discover new opportunities.
Every WBL experience helps you build confidence, gain clarity about your career goals, and develop the skills employers are looking for. Whether it’s just for a day or over several months, each opportunity adds something valuable to your future.
