Critical Illness Policy

Critical Illness insurance can provide you – and your family – with the coverage and additional financial protection you may need for expenses associated with an unplanned covered illness. The plan pays you a fixed cash benefit amount if you are diagnosed with a critical illness as defined by the policy. What you do with the money is up to you. Examples of covered illnesses include but are not limited to, invasive cancer, heart attack, stroke, renal (kidney) failure, major organ transplant, paralysis and ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Employees enrolled in the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) will automatically receive a $5,000 Critical Illness Policy for themselves, paid for by LCPS. Up to an additional $25,000 in coverage can be purchased by HDHP participants who may also choose to purchase coverage for their spouse and/or children. Non-HDHP participants may also purchase up to a $25,000 Critical Illness Policy for themselves as well as coverage for their eligible family members.  Employees may enroll in this benefit at new hire, during open enrollment or within 30 days of a qualifying event.
