The Loudoun County School Board held a public hearing regarding Charter Schools on October 24, 2000.  On December 12, 2000, the Loudoun County School Board adopted a resolution stating its intent to accept Charter School applications.

Loudoun County Public Schools has two charter schools at the elementary level:

• Hillsboro Charter Academy 

• Middleburg Community Charter School
