MAP -Remote Administration Support
LCPS is committed to providing all students with a high quality, personalized learning experience. LCPS will administer NWEA’s MAP Reading and Math Growth assessments to students in grades 1-8 and select math courses in high schools in the fall, winter, and spring.
For students enrolled in Virtual Distance Learning, MAP assessments will be delivered remotely to students in a synchronous learning experience. While the assessment sessions will be managed by school staff, parent/guardian support may be necessary to aid students in successfully accessing and navigating the test. Additional information regarding the testing sessions will be forthcoming from your student’s assigned school.
LCPS-Approved Device for MAP Administration
LCPS recommends that all students utilize their division-provided device while participating in the MAP assessment. All LCPS students, grades K–12, are eligible to be assigned an LCPS individual learning device. Please follow the instructions below if you had previously declined the district-provided device, but now wish to receive one and participate in the MAP assessment.
Families who wish to obtain an LCPS device for testing may visit this link to schedule an appointment at one of our on-site locations to be assigned an LCPS individual learning device. Please note, that you may also schedule an appointment to return this device at a later date.
What do parents/students need to do to be ready for the test?
STEP 1: Make sure the Chromebook is turned on, plugged in and has run any waiting updates from LCPS. If your Chromebook has any known technical issues, contact the Department of Digital Innovation at 571) 252-2112, Monday- Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
STEP 2: Make sure the Chromebook can access the internet. In order to test, students must be using the Chrome browser.
STEP 3: Watch this quick video and run a system check on the Chromebook. This is another support document for configuring the Chromebook.
Video for setting the screen resolution
LCPS-issued Windows devices may use the information below to address their screen resolution issues:
Right click on the desktop and select Display settings
Slide the "Change the size of text, apps..." to the right to make text bigger. Or slide it to the left to make them smaller. Set this 100%.
Click "Advanced Display Settings" at the bottom of the settings window
Click "Advanced sizing of text and other items" at the bottom of the window
Change screen resolution to 1024x768 or higher
STEP 4: Consider accessing a MAP Practice Test. Username: grow, Password: grow
Your student's proctor or teacher may provide time to work through these steps prior to test day.

What should parents know about the test administration?
MAP tests will ask your student questions on content they have not been taught and possibly on content well above their grade level. This test design identifies their "ceiling" of instructional knowledge and may feel frustrating to students. It's expected that students will not know the answer to all of the questions, but equally important that they try their best even on hard questions so we can learn where they're ready to grow.
MAP tests are adaptive, meaning the next test question varies based on the answer to the previous test question. The adaptive design of the test makes it is succeptible to interruptions. It would not be unusual for a student to be exited from the test, through no fault of their own, once or twice. The proctor/teacher will provide technical assistance if that occurs, but you may wish to speak with your student ahead of time about the possibility.
MAP tests are not designed to be touch screen compatible. While your student may be able to use the touch screen functionality during the test, repeated use may cause your student to be exited from the test. This does not happen in all cases, but we encourage exclusive keyboard usage.
What happens if something goes wrong during testing?
STEP 1: Have your student use the chat feature in Google Meets to communicate what is happening to their proctor/teacher.
STEP 2: Please be patient as the proctor/teacher looks up the issue and provides direction (via the chat feature) on how to resolve the issue. It's possible the proctor/teacher may need to speak with you by phone or send you to the LCPS Call Center for hardware or network support.
STEP 3: If you do not receive a response from the proctor/teacher, you may reach out to your school's Testing Coordinator.
STEP 4: You may also exit the test, restart your child's computer, and log back into the test. Sometimes that resolves the issue. Your child will need the proctor/teacher to confirm their re-entry and will pick up where they exited the test.
