PBIS

  1. “What is School-Wide PBIS?”

Improving student academic and behavior outcomes is about ensuring all students have access to the most effective and accurately implemented instructional behavioral practices and interventions possible. The PBIS Team at Moorefield Station Elementary leads the implementation of PBIS through a program of school-wide positive behavior expectations, incentives, and recognition opportunities for students and staff.

  1. “What Does School-Wide PBIS Emphasize?”

In general, PBIS emphasizes four integrated elements:
(a) data for decision making,
(b) measurable outcomes supported and evaluated by data,
(c) practices with evidence that these outcomes are achievable, and
(d) systems that efficiently and effectively support implementation of these practices.

  1. What Outcomes are Associated with Implementation of PBIS?

Schools that establish systems with the capacity to implement PBIS with integrity and durability have teaching and learning environments that are

  • More engaging, responsive, preventive, and productive

  • Address classroom management and disciplinary issues

  • Improve supports for students and

  • Most importantly, maximize academic engagement and achievement for all students.

At the heart of PBIS is the individual responsibility to be a SHARK.  The MSE "SHARK Support" is a focus throughout our school day:

Smart choices:  I walk away from problem situations.

Helpful:  I stand up for myself and others.

Achieve:  I find a positive solution.

Responsible:  I know when to talk to an adult.

Kind:  I use respectful words, actions and body language.
