About the Annual Loudoun County Regional Spelling Bee

The Annual Loudoun County Regional Spelling Bee is a celebrated academic competition that brings together top spellers from across the county. It allows students to showcase their linguistic skills, build confidence, and engage in a friendly yet challenging competition.

Spelling bees inspire a love for language and vocabulary, helping students refine their spelling skills, expand their vocabularies, grasp essential concepts, and strengthen their command of English beyond everyday use. They also promote critical thinking, enhance memory retention, encourage healthy competition, and build students' confidence in public speaking and performing under pressure.

Loudoun County Public Schools welcomes all public, private and homeschooled students in grades 5 through 8 to participate in the spelling bee competition. Winners from each elementary and middle school advance to the regional qualifying round, which tests both spelling and vocabulary knowledge. The top 30 scores from this round advance to the Loudoun County Regional Spelling Bee. The Loudoun County Regional Spelling Bee winner will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee held May 27-29, 2025 in Washington, D.C.
