LCPS Update Graphic

Dear LCPS Families and Staff,

With valuable input from our school community, at last night’s June 11 School Board meeting, the board was presented with and voted to approve a revised plan to address teacher professional development related to the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) changes and new initiatives for the 2024-2025 school year. This plan includes four new professional development (PD) days for our teachers utilizing “stand-alone” days that fall in between weekends and holidays and are considered easier for families to adjust to according to the community feedback we received. These dates are:

  • October 4, 2024

  • November 4, 2024

  • January 28, 2025

  • June 16, 2025

Your input has been crucial in shaping this plan, and we believe this approach will better balance the need for teacher development with the practical needs of our community. As a reminder, this is a one-time solution because of extenuating, unanticipated circumstances and would not occur year over year.

Now that the plan has been approved, all versions of the calendars for students, schools, and staff will be updated and posted. The new calendars have been posted. Reminders about the updated calendars will be included in newsletters.

To learn more about the VDOE initiatives and changes that drove this schedule change, read the Frequently Asked Questions posted on the website.

Thank you for your continued partnership in our student’s education and support of our educators!

In partnership and appreciation,

Aaron C. Spence, Ed.D.
