National Merit Scholarship Program text surrounded by illustration of laurels.

Eleven Loudoun County Public School (LCPS) students have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) as National Merit $2,500 Scholarship and corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship winners.

Eight LCPS students were named NMSC National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners. The $2,500 Scholarship designees were chosen from more than 15,000 finalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors. The National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners from LCPS are:

  • Andrea Arulanand, John Champe High School

  • Varun Sai Cheedalla, John Champe High School

  • Anjika Ganjoo, Lightridge High School

  • Edwin N. Kyle, Loudoun Valley High School

  • Siri Munigunti, Freedom High School

  • Veer P. Sidhu, Rock Ridge High School

  • Lakshmi Sritan R. Motati, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology

  • Quinn A. Wall, Independence High School

Three LCPS students received corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarships. These three LCPS students are among approximately 770 high school seniors who have won corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarships awards. Corporate sponsors provide National Merit Scholarships for finalists who are children of their employees, who are residents of communities the company serves, or who plan to pursue college majors or careers the sponsor wishes to encourage. Most corporate-sponsored National Merit awards are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study and provide annual stipends that range from $1,000 to $10,000 per year. The LCPS students who won corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarships are:

  • Christopher Lee, Freedom High School

  • Jaise J. Sanjith, Heritage High School

  • Ishara Shanmugasundaram, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology

“Congratulations to these National Merit Scholarship winners. Achievements such as these exemplify our students’ commitment to learning and achievement and are a testament to the exemplary instruction and support they receive in LCPS,” said Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence.

These scholarship announcements are the first two award announcements as part of NMSC’s 69th annual awards presentation. Winners of the college-sponsored Merit Scholarships will occur on June 5 and July 15. For more information, visit the NMSC website.
