LCPS Update Graphic

Overall achievement for students in Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) exceeds state averages across SOL test results, AP testing, and on-time graduation rates, according to a report from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). All of LCPS’ previously-accredited 98 schools also remain accredited.

“LCPS remains poised at the top of the state amongst comparable divisions and I am so proud of our students and staff for these achievements,” said Dr. Aaron Spence, Superintendent. "But what I want us to remember is that SOLs and other state assessments can’t be the only way that we measure ourselves, particularly when the state continues to move the goal posts and change the criteria. Numbers can be cut and presented in myriad ways, which can be confusing for students, parents and communities. What matters most is that we remain committed to providing the best educational experience we can for our students every day. We know there is room for improvement here, and we don’t need anyone outside Loudoun County to tell us that.  No one holds us more accountable than we hold ourselves, and our community’s investment in public education reflects our shared commitment to excellence. I am confident that, in partnership with our School Board and our families, our amazing educators will continue to provide the experience our community expects and deserves.”

Loudoun County Public Schools had an on-time graduation rate of 97.1 percent, which is 4.3 points above the state average of 92.8 percent and bested last year’s rates by .5 percent. LCPS also had the highest graduation rate among comparable-sized school divisions across the state.

“Our focus remains on delivering a well-rounded educational experience for every student, with a strong emphasis on literacy and supporting our most vulnerable learners,” said Board Chairwoman Melinda Mansfield. “That’s why our School Board has created a performance monitoring committee to ensure we hold ourselves accountable and stay committed to continuous improvement. While state metrics provide important benchmarks, we are dedicated to taking a broader, locally informed approach to measuring success. We should take pride in the progress we've made, while recognizing there is still important work to do.”

Examples of specific successes at the school level pertaining to these results include:

Luckett’s Elementary School increased their SOL Science scores by 34% in one year moving them out of Level 2 Accreditation status.

Dominion High School increased achievement from 2023 to 2024 by almost 15 points in math.

Park View High School increased achievement from 2023 to 2024 by over 23 points in math, including a 25 point increase for English learners and 20 point increase for students with disabilities.

River Bend Middle School increased student achievement in English and Math by over 10 points for all students.

According to the newly released VDOE School Quality Profiles, LCPS has made significant gains in the number of students participating in advanced academic coursework. Advanced Placement assessment results will be available during a student achievement data presentation at the October 13, 2024, Performance Monitoring Committee meeting.
