The Loudoun County School Board held a meeting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, February 13, in the School Board Meeting Room at the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Administrative Offices, 21000 Education Court in Ashburn.

Advisory Committee Update
The LCPS Loudoun Education Alliance of Families (LEAF) Advisory Committee provided a quarterly update to the School Board.

Work Session

Staff provided a financial review to the School Board at the end of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters of each fiscal year. This 2nd quarter financial report captures financial activity for July 2024 through December 2024 and provides a projection for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Staff provided an update to the School Board on the 2024-25 schedule for program evaluations.

Staff provided the School Board with an LCPS Energy and Sustainability update.

Recess Meeting

Pledge of Allegiance
The Pledge of Allegiance was performed by students from Leesburg Elementary School.

Student/Staff Recognitions
Staff and the School Board recognized the Middle School Intramural Flag Football program.

Teams and individuals were recognized for their outstanding achievement in capturing the highly prestigious VHSL State Championship in their sport or activity during the spring sports season.

The Leesburg Elementary School team shared how they leveraged a grant from the Loudoun Education Foundation to launch a student-run store.

Superintendent’s Report
Highlights of the report include:

  • Student Equity Ambassadors and MSAAC Student Delegates participated in a skills-building workshop.

  • LCPS School Nutrition Services received a Healthy Meals Incentives recognition.

  • Better Together community dinner provided an opportunity for connection and art.

Public Comment
Community members participated in person and virtually to provide the School Board with comments on a range of topics.

Action Items
The Board addressed three action items:

  1. The School Board postponed a decision on the student school calendar for the 2026-2027 school year.

  2. The School Board approved revisions to Policy 1040, Equal Opportunity for Equitable, Safe and Inclusive Environment.

  3. The School Board approved revisions to Policy 2420, Meeting Procedures, to comply with changes to Virginia Code.

Information Items
The Board discussed numerous information items, including:

  1. Revisions to Policy 6140, Free and Reduced-Price Meal Services. 

  2. Revisions to Policy 8230, Procedures for Student Disciplinary Appeals to School Board.

  3. The ACCESS Academy Operational Agreement.

Board members provided comments and updates on their committees.

New Business
Mrs. Griffiths discussed Board members receiving the agenda earlier.

Mrs. Griffiths encouraged the Student Services Committee to address Policy 8040.

Dr. Rashid discussed Board member districts.
