Vikyath Tanamala, a Selden’s Landing Elementary School student, won the 43rd Annual LCPS Regional Spelling Bee on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, held at Lightridge High School. Tanamala, a 5th grader, won the competition after 20 rounds over Oviya Amalraj, an 8th grader at Lunsford Middle School. Amalraj has won the LCPS Regional Spelling Bee for the last two years.
Tanamala now moves on to the 100th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee, which is celebrating 100 years of spelling champions, May 27 to May 29, 2025. Spellers from across the country and world will compete on national television. Students will get the opportunity to participate and win grand prizes and gain significant recognition for their skills. The purpose of the spelling bee is to improve spelling skills, build students' vocabularies and promote proper usage of the English language.
"Congratulations to all the students who showcased their talent and hard work in this year’s regional spelling bee.
