In reviewing whether some school names are consistent with the Loudoun County School Board’s adopted vision, mission, goals and values, the School Board is considering changing certain school names and is seeking public input. The first two school names being reviewed are Frances Hazel Reid Elementary School and Mercer Middle School.

The School Board-appointed renaming committees for Frances Hazel Reid Elementary School and Mercer Middle School have both recommended the schools be renamed. The School Board will review the renaming recommendations for the two schools at the April 8 School Board meeting.

The School Board has also scheduled a public hearing on April 9 to receive comments on the proposed renaming of Frances Hazel Reid Elementary School and Mercer Middle School.  The hearing will be held at the LCPS School Administration Building (21000 Education Court, Ashburn), beginning at 6:30 p.m. Visit the Citizen Participation webpage for advance sign-up to speak on April 9. The public comment sign-up period for the April 9 hearing will open on Friday, April 4 at 9 a.m.

The School Board is anticipated to vote on the potential renaming of Frances Hazel Reid Elementary School and Mercer Middle School at the April 22 School Board meeting.
