The Loudoun County School Board held a meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in the School Board Meeting Room at the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Administrative Offices, 21000 Education Court in Ashburn.

Work Session

Staff from the Department of Teaching and Learning provided an Instructional Framework update.

Staff from the Department of Business and Financial Services presented the FY25 3rd Quarter Financial Review.

Staff from the Department of Support Services presented information on School Board Policy 6210, Student Transportation, and the Annual Review of Walk Zones.

Superintendent’s Report

Highlights of the report include:

  • Potomac Falls High School Named National Model School - Only School in Virginia to receive the recognition.

  • Freedom High School HOPE Club held its annual HOPE Dance.

  • Farmwell Station Middle School students develop project to care for their environment.

  • LCPS Transportation Division hosted Academies of Loudoun Auto Mechanic students.

Public Comment
Community members participated virtually and in person to provide the School Board with comments on a range of topics.

Action Items
The Board addressed eight action items:

  1. The School Board approved naming the J. L. Simpson Middle School auditorium after Ms.Beth Paquette, therefore named The Beth Paquette Fine Arts Center for a period of 10 years.

  2. The School Board adopted the amended Student Behavior and Accountability Committee’s approved revisions of Policy 8280, Corporal Punishment Prohibited.

  3. The School Board adopted the amended 2025-2026 Annual Plan for Special Education and Application for Federal Funds. 

  4. The School Board approved the 2025-2026 "Local Plan for Career and Technical Education (CTE) Perkins Funds” grant funding application. 

  5. The School Board approved the amended Finance & Operations Committee-approved revisions of Policy 6530, Changing School Attendance Zones.

  6. The School Board voted to rename Mercer Middle School, located at 42149 Greenstone Drive in Aldie, Gum Spring Middle School – effective July 1, 2025.

  7. The School Board voted to rename Frances Hazel Reid Elementary School, located at 800 North King Street in Leesburg, Mildred and Richard Loving Elementary School – effective July 1, 2025.

  8. The School Board denied staff’s recommended retiree health insurance plan changes to be effective January 1, 2026 and voted to create a Select Committee to address needed changes.

Information Items
The Board addressed one information item:

  1. Staff from the Department of Support Services provided information to the School Board on the Dulles South Secondary School Attendance Zone Change Process.
