The Loudoun County Cold Weather Shelter is open for adults in the community who are experiencing a housing crisis resulting in homelessness. The shelter, which provides a warm indoor sleeping environment, will be open from 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. seven nights a week. In addition to a place to sleep, the shelter provides case management, mental health services and other resources.

  • Route 1 pick-ups:

  • 6:15 p.m. - Corner of E. Main Street and Ken Culbert Jr. Road in Purcellville

  • 7:00 p.m. - Inova Loudoun, 224 Cornwall Street, Leesburg (near Loudoun County Transit Local Bus Route 56)

  • 7:30 p.m. - Douglas Community Center, 405 E. Market Street, Leesburg, VA Route

  • 2 pick-ups: 7:00 p.m. - Williams Waters House, 22365 Enterprise Street, Sterling (near Loudoun County Transit Local Bus Route 82)

  • Morning drop-off from the shelter to the above stops on weekends and holidays only For adults age 18 or older Call 571-258-3033 for assistance.

Safety:

The following items are not permitted on the bus or in the shelter:

Knives, Guns, Weapons, Illegal Drugs, Alcohol ALL BAGS will be searched and stored in a locked room for security during the night.

The Good Shepherd Alliance offers Loudoun County’s most comprehensive network of services for the homeless and near-homeless. We have the shelter and transitional housing to care for the immediate emergency. We also work with case managers, volunteers and local businesses to address the issues that lead to homelessness and can keep people trapped in a repeating cycle of instability.

Calling the LAWS 24-Hour Crisis Hotline is the first step to accessing our emergency shelter. LAWS is the only emergency shelter in Loudoun County that is specifically for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault who are fleeing abuse.  Our shelter is a small, single-family home in a confidential location.  The shelter can house up to 12 people.  There are three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, living room, laundry area, and playroom.  There is also a fenced in back yard for additional privacy and protection.  Residents at our shelter are provided bedding, toiletries, clothing and food.  All services are confidential and free. For families in need of shelter with pets, we coordinate pet shelter through a partnership with the Loudoun County Animal Shelter.  If you have concerns about your pet and needing shelter, please call our hotline and our advocates can tell you more about what options are available.

While residents are in shelter, the following services are provided:

  • Safety planning

  • Advocacy and case management

  • Assistance with goal planning

  • Assistance with basic needs, including food, clothing, and toiletries

  • Information and referrals to community resources

  • Transportation assistance to appointments when needed

  • Access to all other services offered by LAWS, including counseling, support groups, children’s services, and legal assistance
