How to Register

If you are considering a Virtual Loudoun Online course for your student, please review the following information before registering.

Students who have registered and are approved for virtual courses will receive a welcome email from their instructor on a Friday before their virtual course opens, with directions detailing how to begin their classes on Monday, the first day of the virtual term.

Parent/Student Registration Steps:

  • Middle school families should first review the Middle School Information page for a list of available courses for our Spring/Summer Terms.

  • If you are taking an HPE course, reference the Testing page for important information regarding required face-to-face meetings.

Virtual Loudoun Online:  Each High School has limited student seats in Terms 1 and 2.  Each school's counseling department determines the prioritization of available seats.  Students can take one credit virtually per academic year for acceleration, hence the 8th credit only.  For more information, please see our Operations Guide***.

Virtual Virginia:  Students are only permitted to take a Virtual Virginia course if that course is not offered in Virtual Loudoun Online Learning. The decision to offer the course is still a school-based decision. For information about Virtual Virginia, please visit our Additional Learning Opportunities page.

For students who may have travel planned during the term

  • Nothing prohibits an active/enrolled LCPS student from taking their assigned computer out of the country, but DDI suggests that students familiarize themselves with the country’s Internet filtering laws and policies, as some LCPS content and needed instructional materials may be unavailable while they are visiting.

  • When considering enrollment for Virtual Loudoun Online (VLO), please know that access to LCPS platforms is blocked for students traveling outside the United States.  However, it is possible for students traveling outside the United States to maintain access to LCPS resources provided families specify the travel start and end dates for the student in ParentVUE.  Travel start and end dates must be entered for each child who will be traveling outside the country.  It can take up to 24 hours for updates to take effect. Please consider this when scheduling travel plans with your student.  (Please review the information under ParentVUE Data & Security for specific steps.) Additionally, we may be unable to accommodate technology concerns with your students' Chromebooks for those who have traveled outside of Loudoun County geography.

  • If a student’s Chromebook breaks while participating in virtual learning, they must bring the device to their home school for support and repairs.

While VLO strives to support all students to the fullest extent possible, LCPS and VLO may not be able to support students who have traveled away from Loudoun County over the summer.  Families need to understand they assume the responsibility for their students to have access to a device and the instructional materials needed to complete their online course.
