Meet Dr. Aaron Spence, Superintendent of Loudoun County Public Schools

A passionate and visionary leader in public education for nearly three decades, Dr. Aaron Spence is dedicated to ensuring all students have access to rigorous coursework, innovative learning opportunities, and resources they need to succeed. Known for fostering a culture where differences are celebrated and where student and staff voices are valued, Dr. Spence is committed to creating an inclusive and empowering environment for all.

As Superintendent of Loudoun County Public Schools, Dr. Spence oversees the instructional leadership and administrative operation of 100 schools and centers serving nearly 83,000 students. Before joining LCPS, he served as Superintendent of Virginia Beach City Public Schools where he earned the title of Virginia State Superintendent of the Year in 2018. He has also served as Superintendent in North Carolina and has held roles as a Central Office administrator and school principal in Texas and Virginia.

Dr. Spence began his career in 1994 as a French and photojournalism teacher, a foundation that shaped his commitment to teaching and learning. Today, he leads LCPS with the belief that every student deserves opportunities to thrive academically, socially and emotionally, preparing them to excel in an ever-changing world.

One LCPS: Post-Entry Plan

 In September 2024, Dr. Spence launched the One LCPS: Forward Together Entry Plan, engaging with stakeholders across Loudoun County. Through direct interactions with students, families, staff, and community members, Dr. Spence gathered valuable feedback.  These community listening sessions provided key insights and actionable ideas to leverage our strengths and address areas for improvement. The feedback from the LCPS community is summarized in Dr. Spence’s Post Entry Plan.

Student Success Talks

Join LCPS Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence for the Student Success Talks, a unique opportunity for families, staff and community members to engage in meaningful conversations about supporting student success. These talks will be held across all eight election districts between November 2024 and May 2025, offering insights, resources and actionable tips to help students thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
