Welcome To Music at Evergreen Mill Elementary School!

MUSIC COURSE SYLLABUS

The Loudoun County elementary music curriculum consists of a well-planned sequence of developmentally appropriate experiences leading to clearly defined skills and knowledge.  The program is designed to actively involve students of all learning modalities using materials carefully selected for their aesthetic value.

Students in Kindergarten through grade five participate in music class once per week.   The fourth and fifth grade students study the recorder.  The music department prepares a Veterans Day program in which the entire student body participates.  The first, third and fifth grades each perform a grade level program.  Fifth grade may choose to participate in Python Singers, our school chorus.

Follow us on instagram @ python_musicians. We are very cautious who we allow to follow us.  If you are a parent or student who wants to follow, please make sure we can recognize your name.  It is helpful if you email your Instagram name to us.  Thank you.

The Loudoun County curriculum is aligned with the National Standards for Arts Education and the Virginia Standards of Learning for Music  2020   Using this link,  Elementary Music Curriculum , you can access the LCPS music curriculum guide and the Virginia Standards of Learning for Music for each grade level.

Mrs. Mitchell graduated with her undergrad and Master of Arts in Teaching from Christopher Newport University (Go Captains!). In her time in education, she has directed children's choirs, a chimes ensemble, organized Honor choir events, served on curriculum committees, and adjudicated many choral auditions. This will be Mrs. Mitchell's thirteenth year in the elementary general music classroom and she cannot wait to meet her students. She lives in Berryville with her husband, two (soon to be three) daughters, dog, and cat. She is looking forward to her first year at Evergreen Mill and can be reached by e-mail.

Mrs. Testa holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Susquehanna University.  Upon graduation she accepted a teaching position with Loudoun County Public Schools where she taught for five years.  She married and relocated to Virginia Beach where she taught for a total of ten years.  In the fall of 2003 her family returned to Loudoun County and she happily returned to teaching in the Loudoun County Public School system.  In 2007 Mrs. Testa began teaching at Evergreen Mill Elementary in the capacity of the full time music teacher.  Mrs. Testa completed her Level III Orff Certification at George Mason University.  In addition, she has completed two levels of World Music Drumming, Level I GAMA Guitar Course and First Steps in Music Training.  Mrs. Testa is an active member of the Music of the Valley Orff Chapter and the Feierabend Association for Music Educators.  I look forward to working with  all the python champions at Evergreen Mill.

“Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.”  ― Shinichi Suzuki
