Check out Policy:

All classes visit the library every other week.  Students may not exceed the book check out limits.

--Kindergartners start with one book and will work up to two.

--Grades 1 - 5 may check out two books.

Fines for Lost Books:

If a student loses a book, please email Mrs. Devinney (Email Chrissie Devinney). I will mark the book as "lost". This will place a fine for the price of the book on the student's account. Most library books find their way home to the library by the end of the year. If in May the book is still lost I will reach out to the family for payment.  The librarian will provide a price for the book and the student may pay for the book by check (made out to Lucketts Elementary) or cash.

Please make every effort to find library books before paying for them!

What if my child finishes their book before library day?

Open check out is available for all students whenever the librarian is not teaching a class. Mrs. Devinney will be at Lucketts 2.5 days a week and at Hovatter 2.5 days.

How many books can my child check out?

Kindergarten starts the year with one book and will work up to two

Grade 1-5 may check out 2 books.

Students are welcome to take advantage of open check out if they finish their books or would like to switch books.

What if my child forgets their books on library day?

Check-out works on a one-to-one correspondence.  When students return a book, they can get a new one, until they have reached the maximum number of books that they are allowed to check out for their grade level.  If they forget all of their books on their library day, they will read a magazine or read a book from a selection provided by the librarian during checkout time.  They are welcome to come to open check-out to get new books when they remember to bring their checked out items to school.

Can books be renewed?

Yes.

What happens if my child has an overdue book or damages a book?

We do not charge fines for overdue books.  However, students are expected to return all library materials on time. Replacement costs will be charged for items that are lost or damaged.
