Financial Aid 101 and FAFSA "Simplification" Presentation

If you weren't able to attend the 10/3/23 presentation at Broad Run High School, review the presentation slides to get an overall understanding of financial aid and the new FAFSA "Simplification" for December 2023.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA opens in December 2023. Many colleges and universities have different deadlines for submission, so apply early. The FAFSA must be completed before some colleges award any money, including scholarships, grants, and work-study programs. Both the parent and student must obtain an FSA ID and can do so now.

Visit the FAFSA site, studentaid.gov, for detailed instructions.

The College Board’s CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE® is an online application that collects information used by almost 400 colleges and scholarship programs to award financial aid from sources outside of the federal government. After you fill out the application, the College Board sends it to the colleges and scholarship programs you have chosen.

U.S. Department of Education Net Price Calculator Center

Net price calculators are available on a college’s or university’s website and allow prospective students to enter information about themselves to find out what students like them paid to attend the institution in the previous year, after taking grants and scholarship aid into account.
