Details for the 2023-2024 School Year

Key Club Interest Meeting: Wednesday, 9/13/23 at 9am, Room 200

THE LAST DAY TO BECOME A MEMBER IS OCTOBER 25, 2023

  • We are part of the international Kiwanis movement; we are dues-paying members ($12.50 of our $15 annual dues go to Kiwanis International).  Several of our projects are part of a world-wide Key Club effort.  Our club is grateful for support and advice from the Leesburg Kiwanis Club.

  • We meet alternate Wednesday mornings at 9 a.m. in Room 200. During holiday seasons, we may meet more frequently to keep up with the many charities which need our help.

  • Volunteer opportunities are announced at the meetings and are posted on the SBHS Key Club Schoology group.

  • Dues of $15 are paid through School Cash Online. No checks; no cash.

  • If you cannot attend an event for which you volunteered, you are responsible for finding a replacement.

  • Hours of volunteer service done to meet the requirements for membership in another organization do not count toward the fifteen hours of service we do every semester for Key Club. Educators Rising members may count "Parents Night Out" hours but not tutoring. Hours we commit within our families, for businesses, for our political parties or at our respective houses of worship (church, temple, mosque) do not count for our Key Club commitment. Those are all wonderful but we do not expect Key Club recognition for them.  You are not allowed to "double dip" if you are in Key Club and NHS.

  • Members may count any approved activity, not just those announced at our meetings. Get approval beforehand to prevent disappointment. Members are encouraged to find charitable activities in Loudoun County or in the area on their own. Just be sure to have the hours signed by an officer or by one of the adult directors of that charity.

  • Hours done for other service organizations (Lions, Rotary, Ruritan, etc.) are not counted as Key Club hours. Interact is the student division of Rotary.

  • Members report their thirty hours for the school year. Those are split equally between first and second semester. (Additional summer hours are on your own.)

  • Key Club members who have completed their service hours wear the Key Club white honor cord at graduation. The honor cord is presented to graduating seniors at the same evening ceremony at which we install the new officers.

  • Members in good standing may attend the Key Club District Convention.  Attendees usually pay a portion of the registration and hotel cost.

  • Community charities needing help from our members should email the officers with date, start time, end time, place, number of volunteers needed and contact info for person in charge of your event staff.  Remember that our club does not meet every week; plan to notify us far enough in advance to allow us time to react.

  • Email our officers at Email Stonde Bridge

  • Email the advisor, Mrs. Gloe at Email Elizabeth Gloe
