Musical notes

The Loudoun County elementary music curriculum consists of a well-planned sequence of developmentally appropriate experiences leading to clearly defined skills and knowledge.  The program is designed to actively involve students of all learning modalities using materials carefully selected for their aesthetic value.  The Loudoun County curriculum is aligned with the National Standards for Arts Education.

All students in grades K - 5 receive one fifty minute period of music instruction a week.  Students are actively engaged in music through singing, playing instruments, moving to music, reading and writing musical notation, listening, evaluating, and creating music.

Meet Mrs. Stetz

Mrs Stetz family picture

Hello Waterford families! My name is Melanie Stetz. This is my 24th year teaching elementary music in Loudoun County and I am thrilled to be back at Waterford for my 9th year.  I earned my degree in Music Education from Shenandoah University where I was a member of the Conservatory Choir, Chamber Choir and Shenandoah Singers.  I had the wonderful opportunity to tour Germany, Italy, France and Brazil with those choirs.  In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching my kids play soccer, walking my dog Cooper and traveling.  I am looking forward to another musical year with my wonderful Waterford students!
