We are very excited to have the opportunity to be a part of the literacy team here at Waxpool.  It is our goal to service our students, staff and community in providing quality reading instruction throughout the year.

The primary responsibilities of the reading specialists are to train, coach, and support teachers, as well as, teach, coach, and support our students.  As reading resource teachers, we work with small groups of students, differentiating instruction based on their literacy needs, both in and out of the classroom. Our focus for instruction consists of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. All areas of literacy are taught to help develop skills and strategies, so our students become independent readers and writers. It is our hope that the work we do helps each student become a successful, lifelong reader.
