Instructional Technology
The mission of the Belmont Station instructional technology department is to empower students to make meaningful contributions to the world. Here at Belmont Station Elementary, technology plays an important role in your child's education. All students are assigned a chromebook to support their learning, both inside the classroom and at home. Technology is an exciting part of the world we live in and with this comes the responsibility of being a good citizen online. Please continue the conversation at home with your child about what it means to be a good Digital Citizen. Computer Science Standards
"The Computer Science Standards of Learning identify academic content for essential components of the computer science curriculum at different grade levels. Standards are identified for kindergarten through grade eight and a core set of middle and high school elective courses. Virginia is one of the first states to have K-12 standards and is leading the way in student workforce readiness.
Although there is no applicable SOL test associated with computer science instruction, these standards are intended to provide students with a detailed understanding of the study of computers and algorithmic processes, including their principles, their hardware and software designs, their applications, and their impact on society." - VDOE
At Belmont Station, teachers continue to integrate the Computer Science Standards throughout their lessons when appropriate. Our Instructional Facilitator of Technology, Mrs. Foti works to support teachers in their planning and delivery of these lessons.
Digital Citizenship
Belmont Station Elementary School has demonstrated its commitment to taking a whole community approach to preparing its students to use the power of technology by being a Common Sense Media School! As a Common Sense Media School, we prioritize teaching our students essential digital literacy skills. From understanding online safety to evaluating digital content, our young learners are equipped to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. Whether they are exploring education apps, researching online, or building basic navigating skills, our students learn to be critical thinkers and responsible digital citizens.
Being apart of this program means we have access to valuable resources for both educators and families. You'll find tips, guides, and conversation starters on topics like screen time, cyberbullying, and privacy. Together we can create a healthy digital environment for our students.
Our commitment to Common Sense Media ensures your child grows up not just as a digital user but as a digital learner. Students will use technology to create, collaborate and learn while demonstrating responsible use. Together, we will support our students in becoming savvy, responsible digital citizens who shine both online and offline!
