VA College Road Trip
ROUTE 81 COLLEGE TOUR: STERLING TO BRISTOL
From Dominion High School travel on Route 7-W and visit our neighborhood community college: Northern Virginia Community College.
Begin traveling on Route 7-W and stop in Purcellville at PATRICK HENRY COLLEGE.
Continue west on Route 7 to Winchester. Our next stop is SHENANDOAH UNIVERSITY.
Less than 30 minutes down the road in Front Royal is CHRISTENDOM COLLEGE.
Keep on traveling south on Route 81 until you come to Harrisonburg. Now you have three colleges to visit – JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY, EASTERN MENNONITE UNIVERSITY, and BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE.
The next stop is in Staunton to visit MARY BALDWIN COLLEGE.
In Lexington, your visit will take you to VIRGINIA MILITARY INSTITUTE or WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY, and nearby is SOUTHERN VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY.
As you come upon Roanoke, head east to visit HOLLINS UNIVERSITY.
Get back on Route 81 for a couple of miles and then you’re heading southeast to visit FERRUM COLLEGE.
Back on the road, traveling south again on Route 81, from Roanoke, you’ll come to the town of Salem, where you’ll find ROANOKE COLLEGE. Special Note: If you are in the Roanoke area around suppertime, be sure to ask the locals about the Farmhouse Restaurant. You don’t want to miss it!
The next stop is Blacksburg, home of the Hokies at VIRGINIA TECH. Get your visitor's parking pass before you park anywhere!
Less than a half-hour away from VT is RADFORD UNIVERSITY.
Heading west off Route 81, go over the mountains to BLUEFIELD COLLEGE.
You can continue on the western track and visit the UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA’S COLLEGE @ WISE ( which used to be CLINCH VALLEY COLLEGE).
From here you need to head back to Route 81 where you can stop by EMORY & HENRY COLLEGE in Emory.
ROUTE 29 COLLEGE TOUR: CHARLOTTESVILLE TO DANVILLE
From Ashburn take Route 28 South to Route 66 to Route 29 South. The first stop is in Charlottesville at the UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA.
After discovering what a CAVALIER is and visiting this wonderfully historic campus, it’s back on Route 29 South. Visit SWEET BRIAR COLLEGE.
The next stops in the Lynchburg area are RANDOLPH COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY OF LYNCHBURG, and then off to LIBERTY UNIVERSITY.
Feeling a little tired of Route 29? Take a side trip from Lynchburg onto Route 460 East and visit HAMPDEN-SYDNEY COLLEGE and LONGWOOD UNIVERSITY in Farmville.
If you stayed on Route 29, the last stop on this tour will be in Danville where you’ll visit AVERETT UNIVERSITY.
ROUTE 95 COLLEGE TOUR: FAIRFAX TO PETERSBURG
From Ashburn, you'll have a short trip to Fairfax to visit GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY and Arlington to visit MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY.
Then hop on the beltway to 95 South. It will take about an hour down Route 95 to Fredericksburg to see the UNIVERSITY OF MARY WASHINGTON.
The next stop on the outskirts of Richmond in Ashland is RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE.
Next up, you have 3 colleges to visit in Richmonde: UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, VIRGINIA UNION UNIVERSITY, and VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY.
If you want to continue on Route 95, the next stop is VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY in Petersburg.
ROUTE 64 COLLEGE TOUR: WILLIAMSBURG TO VIRGINIA BEACH
If you are planning to visit Virginia Beach while on your college tour, take Route 64 East from the Richmond area. The first stop will be in Williamsburg to see the COLLEGE OF WILLIAM AND MARY. Spend a few days in Colonial Williamsburg & Jamestown – you’ll enjoy it!
The next stop is Newport News where you can visit CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY. You only have five more colleges before you hit the beach!
The remaining campuses are HAMPTON UNIVERSITY in Hampton, NORFOLK STATE UNIVERSITY, VIRGINIA WESLEYAN COLLEGE and OLD DOMINION UNIVERSITY in Norfolk, and REGENT UNIVERSITY in Virginia Beach.
