Mission Statement

The Lovettsville Elementary School Counseling program provides a developmentally appropriate, comprehensive curriculum to address the academic, career, and personal/social needs of all students in our increasingly diverse community.

The program supports the Lovettsville Elementary mission of "to work collaboratively to empower students to become creators, collaborators, critical thinkers, communicators, and contributors".

Vision Statement

The students of Lovettsville Elementary are an important part of our community, and we believe it is imperative to their success to have collaboration between staff, parents, and the community.  The school counseling program strives to support the students in the development of their creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and leadership. In addition, we hope that our students are kind and respectful to those they encounter at school, home, and to others out in the world.  The program provides a developmentally appropriate, comprehensive approach to assist the students in preparing for future successes.

The Role of the School Counselor

Each student at Lovettsville Elementary will take part in the school guidance and counseling program. The school counselor is responsible for the organization and management of the program. The ASCA National Model provides the mechanisms with which the school counselor will design, coordinate, implement, manage, and evaluate the program for student success.

School counselors work with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to help students succeed in school and prepare for meaningful, productive living. The program is child-centered, developmental and preventative. It encourages students’ academics, social/emotional, and career awareness at the stage of their development. Counseling services are inclusive and respectful of differences in gender, religion, ethnicity, race, ability, socioeconomic status, disability, and age.

Career Awareness

The career component of elementary school counseling is very important because we are teaching that going to school is the students' "job". Being a student will prepare them for one day entering the world of work! In elementary school, we focus on identifying hobbies and interests that guide career exploration. We discuss responsibility, tools used in the workplace, "career clusters", ways to explore career options, and the variety of options available upon completions of high school.
