Welcome to Newton-Lee!
Welcome to the Newton-Lee Elementary School web site. We hope you find the information contained here useful and informative.
Newton-Lee is located in the Belmont Country Club subdivision in Loudoun County. The school opened its doors in August, 2005 to serve students from the Ashburn and Selden's Landing communities. The school currently serves students in Kindergarten through Grade Five.
The name of our school honors the memory of two Loudoun County residents, Christopher Newton and Dong Chul Lee, who perished at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.
Christopher Newton was deeply loved and widely admired. He approached everything with enthusiasm and purpose, all the better for those who were fortunate enough to know him. He was a man who took his job seriously, his family seriously and his responsibilities seriously, and he did it all with intensity. But – at the same time – through all his seriousness, he was able to laugh at himself. Christopher, his wife Amy and their two children Michael and Sarah, had recently moved from Southern California to the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC. Christopher was President and CEO of Work|Life Benefits, and was in the process of relocating company headquarters to Northern Virginia. This move would allow him to spend more time with his family – attend school functions, coach his son’s little league team or just have a quiet dinner at home with his wife and children. Many of Christopher’s accomplishments can be listed on paper. Earning the rank of Eagle Scout at 14, graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with high marks, earning his CPA, becoming CFO and later, after completing his MBA at UCLA’s Anderson School, being named President and CEO of Work|Life Benefits. Christopher was a successful businessman and world traveler who loved the performing arts and music, the game of golf, and any home improvement project he could find. But perhaps his most important accomplishment, the identity he would tell you he was most proud of, was that of a loving, devoted family man.
D.C. Lee came to America in 1968. A graduate of the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University in Computer Science, Lee worked in the U.S. Air Force for four years and for the National Security Agency for 14 years. At the time of his death, Lee was working as a program manager in government information and communication systems in the Space and Communications Group for the Boeing Company. A loving husband to his wife, Jungmi, and proud father of his three children, Daniel, Melissa and Cynthia, D.C.’s trademark was his contagious smile and his humorous wit. “He was a really sweet person,” said one friend in his River Creek, Leesburg community. But those who knew D.C. well understood that his smile was the overflowing expression of a heart full of love and joy.
The Belmont community is also rich with historical importance dating back to the early colonies. Did you know that Ludwell Lee, the builder of the Belmont Mansion, entertained the Marquis de LaFayette there in 1825?
Our school's mission is to educate all of our students in a safe and nurturing environment. We want all of our students to be excited about coming to school each day. As we explore learning together through an ongoing partnership among staff, students, parents and the community, our children will engage in opportunities to become enthusiastic life-long learners and responsible citizens. Their successes are our successes! Our focus is always centered on our students. Every decision made is based on what is in the best interest of the students.
The Newton-Lee staff is extremely dedicated and qualified. Students are treated with respect, and as leaders! Our school moto is: "Where Leaders are Grown and Greatness is Found."
Communication is a priority. School and classroom newsletters are regularly posted on teachers Schoology pages. Nine week plans are also posted by each grade level to help keep parents informed about what is happening in their child's classroom. We encourage parents to contact their child's teachers anytime they have a question or need additional information.
We have a very active and supportive Parent Teachers Organization. Our PTO plans many exciting evening events to foster and promote community spirit. Cultural Arts Assemblies are also provided to help support and extend our instructional programs. The parents of our students are always welcome and encouraged to volunteer for these events and in their children's classroom. This participation is greatly appreciated!
I encourage you to take a few minutes to browse our web page. I am sure you will be amazed by all of the wonderful activities happening at Newton-Lee! I look forward to working with you and keeping the lines of communication open. This partnership will ensure success for all of our students. Please do not hesitate to call me at 571-252-1535.
