This is a free clinic to all Riverside students interested in auditioning for the once in a lifetime show - Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - High School Edition!

Brigitte Thieme-Burdette (she/they) is an actor and acting teacher based out of NYC and NoVA. She holds an MFA in Acting from Columbia University and a BFA in Acting from Pace University. In NoVA and on Zoom, she teaches private acting lessons, offers workshops and coaches actors through their college audition journeys. Righto chaps! Let's be British!

The goal of this clinic is not only to teach you how to do Received Pronunciation (RP) & Neutral Standard English Accent (NSEA) accents and dialects, but to also give you the tools to make the accent or dialect your own based on your character choices. You will be armed with the ability and technical skills to sink into these accents and dialects all summer before auditions!

On Day 1, we will go over the mechanics of learning an accent or dialect: the person, mouth posture, musicality, pronunciation. You'll learn how to make choices and mark up your script using the accent and dialect sheets for RP and NSEA - which you will use in Harry Potter auditions! We'll speak in these accents and dialects as a group, going slowly to get all the sounds going and then send you home with some Brits to listen to. 

Day 2 will be focused on speaking aloud, sometimes one by one, in order to learn from one another and for Brigitte to offer individual feedback. Actors will be given teeny tiny scenes to mark up and then act in with intention. We will also touch on other specific accents in the show, including Scottish for you McGonagall's out there. 

You must attend Day 1 in order to attend Day 2.
