Welcome to Seldens Landing Reading!

The objective of the reading program at Seldens Landing is to help students become competent, lifelong readers.  Students are taught to develop skills and strategies needed to make sense of what they read.  They are learning to think critically and to acquire knowledge in the content areas.  Students are immersed in a rich literature and language environment with daily reading and writing opportunities.  Additionally, they are exposed to a wide variety of fictional and informational reading material in the classroom to enhance learning and enjoyment.

We have two full-time reading specialists who work as resource teachers, diagnosticians of reading difficulties, and consultants to provide support for classroom teachers.  Two formal assessments are used to measure students' literacy growth:  PALS--Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening in grades K-3, and DRA--Developmental Reading Assessment in grades K-5.  Through strong, focused teaching we want all our students to experience the joy of reading.
