Dulles South Area Elementary School Attendance Zone Process

At the December 12, 2023, School Board meeting, adopted an attendance zone for Henrietta Lacks/Hovatter Elementary School that will change the current Aldie, Elaine E. Thompson and Goshen Post  Elementary School zones effective fall 2024.  The Board's action included an amendment to survey the families of both rising grade 5 (current grade 4) and rising grade 4 (current grade 3) students who will be zoned to attend a different school in the fall; the survey will determine interest for these identified students to remain at/finish elementary school at their currently zoned elementary school.  The survey results (from the February 6-19 survey period) were presented to the School Board on February 27, with anticipated action by the Board on March 12.  The survey process is guided by Policy 8160.  Questions may be directed to This Email or by calling 571.252.1050.

On June 27, 2023, the Loudoun County School Board adopted a fall meeting calendar to review Dulles South area elementary school attendance zones in establishing an attendance boundary for Henrietta Lacks Elementary School (ES-32); the elementary school is scheduled to open in fall 2024 (2024-2025 academic year).

Since the school’s inception, being adjacent to Hovatter Elementary School, the intent has been that Henrietta Lacks Elementary School will serve students in kindergarten through grade two and Hovatter Elementary School will serve students in grades three through five.  While there will be separate school staff for the two buildings, students advancing from grade two to grade three will transition from Henrietta Lacks Elementary School to Hovatter Elementary School.

Henrietta Lacks Elementary School, located at 41125 Collaboration Drive in Aldie, is under construction and adjacent to Hovatter Elementary School
