CAMPUS is a high school college access program designed to meet the specific needs of first-generation college-bound students. CAMPUS began in 2002 and currently serves more than 700 Loudoun County Public Schools students in grades 9 through 12. While definitions vary among higher education institutions, LCPS utilizes the least restrictive definition of “first-generation”: neither household parent/guardian obtained a Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college/university immediately upon completion of high school.
The goal of CAMPUS is to provide first-generation college bound high school students with the resources, guidance, and support they need to successfully navigate the college admissions process and enroll in post-secondary education.
CAMPUS replaces students’ Study Hall block. Students participate in a 45-minute CAMPUS lesson and have the remaining class time as Study Hall. CAMPUS lessons focus on academic and college/career preparation. Additionally, CAMPUS students utilize SchooLinks, LCPS’ College & Career Readiness platform, to engage in career exploration and college and scholarship research.
CAMPUS students also have the opportunity to participate in fully funded field trips to college campuses across Virginia including George Mason University, James Madison University, NOVA, University of Virginia, Virginia State University, and more!
Students in the CAMPUS program are supported by their CAMPUS Facilitator, along with their grade-level or alpha-assigned school counselor, and are also assigned a CAMPUS Counselor for additional guidance through the college process.
