Reading

Welcome To Reading

As another school year begins it is important to encourage students to continue to read books of their choosing.  Daily reading should be enjoyable and rewarding.  Please help your child by reading with and to them and taking visits to the fabulous county libraries.

Parents are a crucial piece of reading.  You are the cheerleaders, the models and the mentors that encourage and guide your child’s journey as they learn to read.  We are asked often, “What can I do to help?”   There are many ways, you as parents, can help your child.  We have listed three ways below.

Show them how reading is part of your daily life.

  • Read recipes, signs, directions, newspapers and write notes to each other.

Read to your child and have them read to you.

  • Ask questions about what they are reading, predict what will happen next or discuss a character.

Be an active part of your child’s education.

  • Monitor homework assignments and keep an open dialogue with the teacher.
