I am excited to be starting my 26th year in education and 5th year teaching scholars and coaching teachers at Cardinal Ridge, as the Instructional Reading Specialist. It will be an exciting year as we celebrate Cardinal Ridge's 10th year since it opened its doors to staff and scholars. My previous teaching experience includes 4 years as a 1st grade teacher and 1 year as a kindergarten teacher in Warren County Public Schools, VA and 17 years as a Reading Specialist and Literacy Coach in Frederick County Public Schools, VA where I was awarded teacher of the year at Evendale Elementary School in 2012.

I was born in NJ and have 2 sisters younger than me. My family moved to Stephens City, VA when I was 10 years old and in 5th grade. I currently still reside there with my husband of 26 years and 2 of my 4 children. In my spare time I enjoy reading, traveling, listening to live music, and spending time with family and friends, especially my 2 year-old granddaughter:)

I received my undergraduate degree from Shenandoah University in Psychology with a certificate to teach in elementary school and a Master of Science in Education with a reading specialist endorsement from Shenandoah University. I am also trained in Reading Recovery and still enjoy learning the latest ways to help scholars suceed in learning to read. My goal as a Reading Specialist is to motivate and teach scholars literacy strategies and skills so that they become lifelong learners and enjoy reading and writing. My goal is also to coach and mentor teachers so that they are successful literacy educators for their scholars. I look forward to watching teachers and scholars SOAR to their greatest potential at Cardinal Ridge.

My name is Lisa Stohlman. I am excited about being a Reading Specialist at Cardinal Ridge Elementary School. This is my thirteenth year teaching. Previously, I served as a Reading Specialist at a Title I School in Sterling Park and before that, I was a Reading Specialist in Manassas Park for nine years. I love to teach reading, learn the latest research, and share it with our scholars' parents and my colleagues. I am a Science of Reading fanatic! Prior, I was a Resource Teacher serving students with different learning disabilities at a K-8 private school. Recently, I became trained in Orton Gillingham’s Multisensory Approach to Reading through the Virginia Department of Education. I also earned the recognition of National Board Certified Teacher in 2019. I love to learn and grow both as a teacher and as a person. I am from Scranton, Pennsylvania and moved to Virginia in 2009 for my first teaching job at a Montessori School. Recently, I moved to South Riding with my husband, who is a middle school teacher, and our fun-loving four-year-old son Gabriel, whom we call Gabe. I love exploring new places and making happy memories with my family. Go Redwings! Remember your Greatness!
