About
We are so glad you are beginning your education with Loudoun County Public Schools. Follow the steps below to register your kindergartener:
1. Determine Eligibility
Two factors determine a child’s eligibility to enroll in kindergarten in Loudoun County Public Schools:
Age: A child may enter kindergarten if they turn 5 years old by September 30 of the year they enter school. For example, if a child’s fifth birthday is on September 30, a child may enter kindergarten that year. If a child’s fifth birthday is on October 1, the child may not enter kindergarten that year.
Residency: The student must be living with a parent or legal guardian and residing in Loudoun County.
Please note that Virginia law states that parents must ensure a child attends school if they will be five years old on or before September 30. However, if, in your opinion, as a parent, your child is not mentally, physically, or emotionally prepared to attend school, they may be exempted for that year. You will need to notify the LCPS Student Services Coordinator if you do not want your child to attend kindergarten until the following year. Once a student turns six, school attendance is mandatory. Grade placement will be determined at the time of enrollment, with factors such as age, academic records, and school readiness considered.
2. Find Your Neighborhood School
Use the LCPS Attendance Boundary E-Listing to locate your student’s home school.
3. Gather the Required Documents
Parents must provide several documents when registering their child. These documents show proof of residency, proof of age, guardianship, immunization and health records. The full list of required documents can be found on the LCPS website. If you are missing any of the required documentation, please contact your home school for guidance.
4. Create a ParentVue Account and Complete Online Pre-Registration
Online registration is the preferred method to register a new student. To register a student, a parent or guardian must first create a ParentVue account. Follow the steps in the Online Pre-registration Getting Started guide (ENG) (SPAN) to create your ParentVUE account and start the Online Pre-registration process. If you are unable or do not wish to use online registration, download the registration forms or contact your student’s home school.
5. Appointment with School
Once you complete the online registration and have the required documentation (in some cases, with the exception of medical), the school registrar will contact you within five business days. If your school registrar does not contact you, call your student’s home school and schedule a registration appointment. During the appointment, the registrar will review all registration documents and answer any questions you may have.

NEW Program Option for Kindergarten Students: Dual Language Immersion
The LCPS Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program provides both English speakers and native Spanish-speaking students the opportunity to learn to read, write, and communicate effectively and develop bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural students while attaining high levels of academic achievement in a powerful learning environment. The program begins in kindergarten where students spend 50% of the day learning in Spanish (Math, Science and Spanish Language Arts) and 50% of the day learning in English (Social Studies, Math extension, and English Language Arts). This 50:50 model continues as students progress through grades K-5. Interest in the DLI Program is open to all kindergartners and is provided at preselected schools. Seats are limited; therefore, a lottery will be held for those who complete the DLI lottery registration form before the deadline. If selected, you would be responsible for your student’s transportation. The lottery registration form submission deadline is April 19. Any families expressing interest after this date will be placed on a waitlist. For more information.
