Learn strategies to support your student’s mental health, academic and social engagement and overall wellness at the United for Wellness Conference and Resource Fair, LCPS’ 7th annual mental health and wellness event, on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Watson Mountain Middle School (41480 Steeplechase Loop Dr, Leesburg). (Snow date is Saturday, Feb. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Watson Mountain Middle.)
This year’s conference features over 40 speakers, including mental health professionals, fitness and wellness coaches, and LCPS educators, who will provide practical tips and guidance for parents and guardians to support their student.
The event will also feature a resource fair with local businesses and nonprofits offering services and guidance to support your family. More than 90 businesses and services will be in attendance offering a variety of opportunities and information for families. For convenience, food trucks will be on-site from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., offering lunch and snack options. Complimentary drinks and snacks will be provided by the LCPS Office of School Nutrition Services.
Dr. Michelle Peace, Professor, Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Forensic Science, will provide a keynote address. Since 2014, Dr. Peace has been funded by the National Institute of Justice to evaluate how electronic cigarettes can be manipulated. Her keynote address will discuss her research and the impact of electronic cigarettes on today’s teen.
ParentGuidance.org, an LCPS partner that provides online resources to help families support their child’s mental health, is a sponsor of the event.
