Ellen Kim

Hello! My name is Ellen Kim, and I am ecstatic to be serving as the Family Liaison for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. I am originally from Southern California where I received my teaching certificate and master's in early childhood education. I taught kindergarten for several years in Los Angeles before I married my husband of 19 years.  Since then, we have lived in South Korea twice; Virginia, Kansas, Washington and California. It has been a whirlwind adventure, moving every couple of years, but our family (17-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter) finally settled in Northern Virginia last August and consider it our final destination.

Throughout our journey, I met with many different families of all cultures and races. It truly has been a wonderful learning experience to be immersed in so many diverse communities. I am hoping to bring my experience to the community and families at Horizon Elementary School. My goal is to empower and assist families to ensure the success of the students. I will work diligently to connect our families with resources and facilitate a strong family-school partnership and thus strengthen the student's academic and healthy development.

Please contact me Email Ellen Kim and thank you! Looking forward to a wonderful year ahead.

What is a Family Liaison?

A Family Liaison is a staff member who works to bridge the communication between school and home by helping parents get the information, help, and support they need to ensure their child’s academic and social success at school. We strive to make sure that each and every student has the necessary resources to help them achieve their best.  In this ever changing economic climate sometimes we find ourselves in need of outside resources and assistance.
