Library

The heart of Pinebrook Elementary, our library is the hub of activity every day.

We are proud to house a rich, diverse library collection to enrich learning, broaden knowledge, and entertain the masses. These resources include books, eBooks, nonprint materials, manipulatives, Makerspace materials, and a professional library.

  • Students have the opportunity to check out two books each time they visit the library.

  • Teachers may sign up for additional library time when they are working on a special project.

  • Classes that miss their regular library time because of a holiday, snow day, or special event will be rescheduled whenever possible.

  • Books may be checked out for two weeks before they are considered overdue.

  • Students are welcome to renew books for a maximum of four times, with the exception of books that are in high demand.

  • Students, teachers, and staff can place a hold on a requested item, to include resources from other LCPS libraries.

  • If a library book is lost or damaged, it is the students' responsibility to provide payment so a replacement book can be purchased for the PNB library collection.

Elementary Online Resources

Loudoun County Public Schools offers a wide variety of online resources that can be accessed from school as well as from home.  All subscription databases can be accessed using LCPSGo.  Click on the Library Resources page for password free access to all the online resources.

Common Sense Media

Common Sense Media provides parents, students, and schools with quality information regarding the safe use of 21st Century media. Pinebrook Elementary School is using curriculum resources from Common Sense Media to prepare students for the personal responsibility required for our Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) initiative.

Students are learning about Internet searching and safety, cyberbullying, evaluating web sites for authenticity and reliability, creative credit and copyright, and other important information literacy skills in Library, in the Computer Lab, and in the classroom.  These skills are critical for our students because "A digital citizen knows how to harness the power of technology safely, respectfully, and responsibly" (Common Sense Media 2015).

In addition to providing educators with a digital citizenship curriculum, Common Sense Media provides reviews of media ranging from movies to video games.  You can visit Common Sense Media for Parents for useful resources and tools to help you and your children navigate today's digital landscape.
