Welcome to Steuart W. Weller Elementary School!

As we enter the new school year, we are excited to be able to welcome you as volunteers and guests. The safety of our students is always our highest priority, so we will always ask for identification and for the purpose of your visit. We hope you will be able to join us this school year during one of our many learning adventures.

SWES serves more than 700 families who live in Ashburn, Sterling, Lansdowne, and Leesburg. It is my privilege to serve as one of the leaders of this amazing school. Our faculty and staff are committed to every child and to every family. We strongly believe that every child has a right to a rigorous education in an environment that is welcoming, safe, inclusive and just plain friendly. At Weller, we strive to make meaningful connections. Our students will be challenged through the construct of Personalized Learning. This educational model is being used throughout Loudoun County Public Schools and in schools across the world. The idea of Personalized Learning (known as PL) means that students will have learning opportunities that are designed to specifically meet their academic needs. Teachers incorporate playlists in the classroom that will guide student learning. Teachers will use Schoology to post assignments.

We are extremely proud that our school continues to meet the accreditation standards set by Virginia Department of Education. We know that to be a successful school, we must have a strong partnership with our community. When we work together, our students thrive.

The SWES PTO consists of parents, teachers, staff, and administration. We work together to support the teachers, to provide educational opportunities for our students, to provide information and support to families, and to make sure that our school maintains its vital links to our neighborhoods. All parents and guardians are automatically members of the PTO. We hope you will be able to join us online for the monthly PTO meetings.

SWES Motto: Each Unique...All One Family

We believe in this motto. We value the individuality and creativity of each family member. We strengthen each other through our shared commitment to our Wild Cats.

If you have any questions about SWES, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am looking forward to a fantastic year!

Respectfully yours,

Julia Burton, Principal

It is with great pleasure that I serve our community as Assistant Principal of Steuart W. Weller Elementary. I am extremely proud of this exceptional school of extraordinary students, staff, and parents.

Prior to becoming Assistant Principal, I was the Dean and a Special Education teacher here at Steuart Weller.  I hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a master’s degree in Special Education K-12, and a master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision.

At Steuart Weller, we are dedicated to providing our students with a safe and nurturing environment in which our students are excited about coming to school each day. We recognize each child’s individual academic, social, and emotional needs and value a personalized learning approach that aims to customize learning for each student’s strengths, needs, and interests.

The partnership between home and school benefits our students in all aspects of their education. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Respectfully,

Beth Webster Karstaedt, Assistant Principal
