2024-25 FAQs for Students

First Day of School:  August 22nd

Locker Setup:  Students will have the opportunity to set up their lockers and walk their schedule on the following days:

6th graders only:  August 19th from 4:30-5:30

7th and 8th graders only:  August 20th from 4:30-5:30

Parents are welcome to come as well to assist.  If your child is unable to attend, please do not worry. All students will have time out of the extended Advisory block to set up their lockers during the first few days of school.

Back to School Night:  Wednesday, September 11th at 6pm. If your student is in Spectrum (Gifted program), please arrive at 5:30 to meet with Mrs. Dolinich.

Transportation to School

Students who are eligible for bus service will be able to see their bus schedule in ParentVUE in the Student information section.  This will show up about a week before school starts. For students starting school mid-year, it takes about a week for your bus schedule to be available.

Students not riding the bus to school are welcome to walk or ride their bike, scooter or skateboard.  Please note all bikes and scooters (including electric scooters) will need to be stored outside, locked to a bike rack; we are not able to accommodate inside storage of these items.  We suggest you provide something to protect the electrical components of any motorized equipment that is brought to school.

Schedules and A/B Day Calendar

Lockers

Each student will be assigned a locker to keep their supplies, coats, lunch boxes, etc.  The lockers have a large area that is approximately 33.5” tall and 11.5” wide and a small area that is 10.5” tall and 11.5” wide.  Each locker does have multiple hooks.  Magnets are helpful for hanging schedules on the inside of the door.

Attendance

Please report a student’s absence, tardy or early dismissal using ParentVUE or by sending an email to TMSattendance@lcps.org

Tardy procedures:  A student arriving late to school does not need a parent to come inside with them.  The student will sign in in the attendance office and proceed to class.

Early Dismissal procedures:  Please report early dismissals to the main office using ParentVUE or the Attendance email address (TMSattendance@lcps.org).  We do ask that you notify us at least 2 hours in advance of the planned departure time.  Students are given a pass to leave class 5-10 minutes early.  They are supposed to come to the attendance office at the appointed time for check out and then will proceed to the main office to wait for their ride. If you pull your car up to the front of the building, we will permit the child to come out to your vehicle.

Chromebooks

Each student will be issued an LCPS Chromebook and charger within their first couple of days in the building.  It is highly suggested they use this device while at school (instead of a personal device), as the school issued Chromebooks connect directly to the school’s secure wifi.

Students have an LCPS email address which is <studentid#>@lcps.org (ex.  0234567@lcps.org)

ParentVUE and StudentVUE

Parents have the ability to report attendance, view grades and student schedules and update contact information using their ParentVUE account.  Students have similar access but are not able to update their contact information.  Students will have access to their StudentVUE accounts once they receive their school issued Chromebook.

Access is available at portal.lcps.org. Parents have access to their ParentVUE account using the same login they used when registering their student.  If you need a ParentVUE access key, please send an email to ycarolan@lcps.org.

Health & PE

Students will be expected to dress out for Health & PE class.  Students are not required to purchase a Health & PE uniform, however it is encouraged. The required fitness clothes are athletic/mesh shorts and a grey or white t-shirt with the student’s last name written on the back in ~4” letters.  The official school uniforms will be available for purchase by the student from the PE teachers if you so choose once school begins in August.

The prices for the LCPS uniforms are:

Shirt:   $3.00  |  Shorts:   $5.50

If your student requires a size 2XL or 3XL, the prices are $4.75 and $7.00 respectively.

This is payable with cash (exact change preferred) or a check payable to Trailside Middle School.  Payment will be given to the student’s PE teacher.

Students will have a PE locker and the lock is provided by the school.  Students can keep their uniform and a spare set of tennis shoes in there.

Family Liaison

A Family Liaison is a staff member who works to bridge the gap between home and school by helping parents get the information and support they need to ensure their child's academic success at school.  They provide much needed programs and resources for families in need both at home and school. Our Family Liaison is Lisa Figueroa and she can be reached at Lisa.Figueroa@lcps.org.

Student IDs

Students will be issued a student ID from the photographer during Fall pictures.  An “ID card” is also available in the StudentVUE app.  Students use these ID cards to sign in/out if they are arriving late or leaving early.  The previous year’s ID card can be used until the new ones become available. New students will receive an ID card shortly after enrollment.

Clubs

Trailside usually runs 3 club sessions during the school year.  Announcements and sign up instructions will be included in the weekly parent newsletters that are sent via email.  Please pay close attention to payment instructions and registration deadlines.
